The Story Behind ManlyCure

In January of 2018, I was on vacation with my family going to the beautiful state of Hawaii. At the time, I had a beard that I had let grown for about 3 months (in other words, a decent sized beard). It was my first time there, and I must say that the views were simply breathtaking. But one thing knocked the 'wind out of my sails', even more than these expansive views. On Day 3 of that amazing 10 day trip, we had gone to visit some of the Jurassic Park filming locations in Oahu. Specifically, Kualoa Ranch. While being amazed by seeing some of my childhood fantasies come to life, I met two brothers near the Jurassic Park sign, James and John. They were locals. And when I say that they had, what I thought was, the shiniest and thickest beards I have ever seen — I'm not exaggerating.

At this point, you're probably thinking "Man.. why would you stare at their beards? That sounds odd!". Well, the funny thing is I was NOT! Because of the time of day, the sun was angled so that the rays hit and reflected perfectly against their glossy beards and the bright reflection was almost like staring directly at the sun! You gotta admit, that's pretty gnarly.

So, we became friends and they kindly invited me and my family to their home in Kaneohe (about 20 minutes away from Paradise Bay Resort, where we were staying). While having dinner at their prestigious home, I eventually brought up the 'beard-blinding incident'. Our dinner talks quickly shifted to them explaining their all natural, organic beard grooming routines and secrets.

A few days later, we hung out more and discovered new areas of the Island. Alas, the day had come where we were to fly back home. After bidding farewell to my new-found friends, I started to reflect. As a matter of fact, I started writing down my ideas and thoughts in a journal, particularly about the beard secrets the brothers had spoken to me about. 

Soon, more and more thoughts started to connect. One of my childhood friends from back home came into mind; he was a long time sufferer of Seborrheic Dermatitis. I started researching this condition, along with many others, such as Alopecia Areata.

I had never known just how big of a problem growing a thick and healthy beard was. It was at this point that I became determined to bring the secrets I had learned to the world, to help my fellow brothers in need. Alas, ManlyCure was born.
